Armenia's Renewable Energy Capacity Reaches 1.2 GW Milestone

Armenia's renewable energy infrastructure achieved a landmark 1.2 gigawatt capacity milestone in October 2025, representing 38% of the nation's total electricity generation capacity.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure reports that 24 new solar farms and 7 wind energy projects became operational across Syunik, Gegharkunik, and Shirak provinces during the past 18 months.

International financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Asian Development Bank, and Green Climate Fund totaled $620 million, enabling rapid deployment of renewable infrastructure.

Armenia's largest solar installation, the 200 MW Masrik-1 Solar Park near Lake Sevan, commenced operations in September 2025. The facility produces enough electricity to power 180,000 households annually while reducing CO2 emissions by 320,000 tons.

The government targets 40% renewable energy mix by 2030, with plans to attract an additional $1.8 billion in clean energy investments. Energy storage solutions and grid modernization projects are priorities for ensuring supply stability.

Private sector participation increased significantly, with 14 international companies establishing regional headquarters in Yerevan to manage Caucasus renewable energy portfolios.
