Azerbaijan's gold production soared more than 70 percent in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, reflecting renewed activity across the country's mining sector and accelerated exploration in liberated territories.
Anglo Asian Mining, the London-listed company operating eight contract areas spanning 2,544 square kilometers in western Azerbaijan, reported gold production increased 2.5 times in the first half of 2025, reaching 12,115 ounces. The company's Gilar mine commenced production in early 2025, marking a significant milestone in its transformation into a mid-tier copper and gold producer.
Copper production also increased sharply, reaching 1,188 tonnes in the first half compared to just 100 tonnes in the same period of 2024. Silver production increased fivefold to 62,354 ounces, demonstrating the breadth of mineral wealth being extracted.
The liberated Eastern Zangezur economic region holds substantial precious metal deposits, particularly in Kalbajar and Zangilan districts. Gold reserves in Kalbajar amount to 143 tonnes, including the Soyudlu deposit with 112.5 tonnes, making it the largest gold deposit in the Caucasus.
Turkish mining companies Eti Bakır and Artvin Maden have secured 30-year development rights for the Gashgachay, Elbeidash, and Agyuzdag deposits in Kalbajar, signaling strong international investor confidence in Azerbaijan's mining potential.
