Azerbaijan's energy strategy highlighted at Gas 2025 annual conference in Berlin

At the annual “Gas 2025: Bridge or Brake?” conference organized by Handelsblatt, Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s energy security took center stage.

In his keynote, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev highlighted that the “Contract of the Century” opened the Caspian Basin to Western companies, leading to long-term energy partnerships. He noted that the Southern Gas Corridor directly links Azerbaijan to Europe, with exports rising yearly. Today, Azerbaijan supplies gas to 12 countries, 10 of them in Europe, including 8 EU members, making it a key pillar of Europe’s energy security.

Aghayev also stressed that the recent Armenia–Azerbaijan peace declaration could bring new trade routes, infrastructure, and investment to the region. He answered questions on the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor, renewable energy, and Baku’s COP29 outcomes.
