Bakcell, one of the leading mobile operators in Azerbaijan, has signed a brand-new partnership agreement with international payments technology company Visa in order to further develop digital payment services in the country.
The collaboration, announced in Baku, aims at incorporating Visa payment solutions into Bakcell’s digital ecosystem and this aims at offering customers the chance to enjoy secure, convenient, and modern financial alternatives for cash flow via their mobile devices.
Enhancing the Digital Economy
Bakcell subscribers will get to enjoy digital payment services powered by Visa, such as in-app payments, enhanced mobile wallet services, and secure payment systems, as a result of the partnership between Bakcell and Visa. The move is expected to contribute towards the digital transformation of Azerbaijan in relation to cashless payment systems and modern consumer financial services.
“Payment systems such as digital payments are becoming ever more integral to the customer experience," Bakcell officials said at the launch ceremony. “Thanks to our partnership with Visa, we will be able to provide the consumer and the digital economy in Azerbaijan with leading-edge services.”
In this case, the regional leadership at Visa underlined that the company views Azerbaijan as “a dynamic and rapidly developing market, in which digitalization and mobile connectivity present considerable opportunities for growth.”
The move fits into the wider investment trend in the telecom and fintech sectors in Azerbaijan. Bakcell, which is owned by NEQSOL Holding, a worldwide diversified group operating in the sectors of telecom, energy, and infrastructure, has lately been very active in its role in the digital services area too. Collaboration between Bakcell and Visa fits well into the strategic mainstay of NEQSOL in technological innovation.
It has been observed that such collaborations work towards speeding up the process of adopting secure and cashless payment solutions in the marketplace, especially within the younger generation of customers.
Azerbaijan has been making steady progress in improving and expanding access to financial services and digital literacy. The Bakcell and Visa collaboration will contribute to this in the following ways:
• Improving access to financial services through mobile tools
• Encouraging secure electronic transactions
• Improving consumer trust via recognized international payment methods
• Promoting the use of digital alternatives instead of cash
It is suggested that mobile operators are being placed at the forefront when it comes to playing an important role in financial inclusion in emerging markets.
Looking Ahead, Bakcell and Visa are planning further joint initiatives in the coming year that may include loyalty programs, digital identity solutions, and innovative services for small businesses.
In light of Azerbaijan’s continued efforts to develop its digital economy, joint ventures between telecommunication corporations and foreign financial technology firms may play a defining role in this process. Bakcell and Visa’s joint venture is another milestone in this process that aims to improve Azerbaijan’s digital payment systems.
