The Azerbaijani company “Akkord” has won a tender announced by the Israeli Ministry of Housing and is set to begin implementing a major construction project in the Jewish state, according to Israeli media.
The reports state that 1,600 engineers and construction workers from Azerbaijan will travel to Israel to take part in the project.
Israeli media highlight that this is not the only example of close economic cooperation between the two countries. In March, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and BP received a license to explore for gas in Israel’s coastal waters. SOCAR had previously acquired a 10% stake in the Tamar gas field—a deal estimated to be worth $900 million.
Israeli sources also note that the Trump administration has been making significant efforts to encourage Azerbaijan to join the countries that have signed the Abraham Accords. It is reported that this issue was the focus of a recent visit to Baku by U.S. presidential envoy Stephen Witkoff.
