NEQSOL’s subsea Digital Silk Way cable project enhances continental digital connectivity.

NEQSOL Holding announced progress on its subsea Digital Silk Way cable project, a major step in expanding digital infrastructure between Europe and Asia. The cable, running beneath the Caspian Sea, is part of a wider plan to create a secure and resilient fiber optic route through the South Caucasus.

The project is designed to reduce dependence on existing northern and southern corridors and to shorten data transit paths. By connecting Azerbaijan directly to Central Asia, the subsea system will improve latency and reliability for international internet traffic. It will also provide additional capacity for cloud services, financial transactions and digital platforms that require uninterrupted high speed connections.

Officials from NEQSOL highlighted that the cable is being built in partnership with global technology providers and will comply with international security and quality standards. Work on the landing stations in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan has already begun, with commercial operations expected to start within the next two years.

Industry observers note that the Digital Silk Way is emerging as both a technological and geopolitical project. Alongside the Southern Gas Corridor and the Middle Corridor for freight, the fiber optic cable represents another layer of connectivity infrastructure linking Europe with Asia.

Governments in the region have expressed support, describing the initiative as a way to diversify digital routes, improve competitiveness and attract new investment in data intensive industries. The subsea cable is expected to transform the South Caucasus into a major node in global digital networks.
