OpenAI has announced the acquisition of Washington-based product development platform Statsig for $1.1 billion, in a strategic move to accelerate its generative AI-based product launches and improve iteration cycles of existing products.
The deal, announced September 3, 2025, will integrate Statsig's experimentation and feature management platform into OpenAI's development pipeline, potentially speeding up improvements to ChatGPT, Codex, and other AI products.
Statsig, founded by former Facebook engineers, provides tools for A/B testing, feature flags, and product analytics that help companies rapidly test and deploy new features. The platform is used by major tech companies to optimize user experiences and product performance.
'This acquisition will significantly enhance our ability to iterate quickly and deliver better AI products to users,' said an OpenAI spokesperson. 'Statsig's expertise in experimentation will be crucial as we scale our offerings.'
The acquisition comes as competition intensifies in the AI space, with rivals like Google, AWS, and Anthropic aggressively vying for market share. OpenAI's move to bolster its product development capabilities signals its intent to maintain leadership in generative AI.
